OVERVIEW
XDS elements and patterns vary across Xbox platforms and scenarios
Inconsistent UX patterns lead to inconsistent experiences across endpoints and scenarios, hindering players' abilities to find and play games as fast as possible.
PROCESS
Following the XDS Design Process
Over the course of my internship, I lead my project through the first 3 phases of the XDS Design Process for my UX pattern:
Phase 1
Discovery and Definition
Phase 2
Design
Phase 3
Documentation
FEEDBACK
Gaining some perspective
I had an unforgettable experience working with so many wonderful and talented people. Being a part of a team comprised of design system designers, product designers, UX engineers, and design managers has taught me more than I could have asked for!
"Emmaly had great impact over the last few weeks and the time has flown by! She handled the project, feedback, requirements, and process with grace and thoughtfulness. Some of her strengths I noticed over the past 12 weeks include strong reflection skills, critical thinking, openness to feedback, curiosity, and thorough documentation. All of these strengths and more helped her successfully meet and exceed focus areas for her core priorities. Her dedication and hard work have made a significant impact on her project. She is very growth mindset focused and she applies her learnings to have greater impact. It has been a pleasure watching her learn and grow, and the broader team has benefitted from and will continue to benefit from her work."
Rita Yu (XDS Senior Design Manager)
"It has been a great pleasure to work with, get to know and have a chance to observe Emmaly's process through the 12 weeks of her internship. Emmaly shows great promise in being a systems thinker and thinking about our product experiences from a critical systems lens. She demonstrated this by asking critical questions about the UX pattern, and the the overall product; and what the player mindset in using them would be. I strongly believe that she brings value to the design process by being able to think systemically while also considering product and player scenarios of our feature areas."

REFLECTION
Moving forward with a greater understanding of what it means to design
I left Seattle and Xbox Studio D (the best studio building in my opinion) with bittersweetness and excitement. I intend to continue asking the tough questions, diving into my work, trusting my own intuition, and feeling empowered.
There is always room for playful humor, even when I have to be focused and diligent with my work. It allowed me to establish and foster connections that I will take with me far into the future. Thank you to the absolutely incredible team that so warmly welcomed me :))
